FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a tincture?
Tinctures are liquid, highly concentrated herbal extracts from soaking herbs in alcohol, vegetable glycerin, or oil. Each tincture has its own unique properties and flavor. Before pharmaceuticals, herbal medicines were widely used to treat disease and maintain health. And tinctures were a common form of those herbal medicines back in the day. It can be a gentle body-strengthening supplement to your overall wellness practice.
How are your tinctures made?
The herbs are organically grown in my small urban garden and are sustainably harvested in small batches. Because each season differs, color, flavor, and potentcy may vary slightly from year to year. My Lemon balm, Lemongrass, Mint, & Anise Hyssop tinctures are hand-picked, processed, slightly macerated & then infused in 80-proof alcohol for up to 6 months, giving them excellent potency.
Ingredients: Fresh-picked Lemon Balm, Lemongrass, Mint, or Anise Hyssop leaves, and *80-proof alcohol. No water was added.
**Note: My tinctures are made with alcohol and may not be suitable for children.
Is it safe to take herbal tinctures?
Although tincture products are generally safe for adults, and even though herbs have a long-established approach to strengthening the body, if you are taking prescription medicines or are unsure about taking tinctures, please discuss with your healthcare provider before taking them.
How do I take a tincture?
Herbal tinctures are best taken when diluted in a small amount of water, tea, or juice. Undiluted alcohol can be strong-tasting and can be irritating to the sensitive tissues in the mouth. However, you can also take them either sublingually (under the tongue) or on the tongue.
How much can I take?
Start with 1-5 drops to see how you react to it. Gradually build up to 1-2 droppers full as needed, but try not to exceed more than 1 tablespoon per day when taken on a daily basis. Increase and decrease dosages as needed.
Pay attention to your body as to what amount suits you best; the effects can be subtle.
To use: You may need to dilute in water, tea, or juice as needed. And, as mentioned above, please pay attention to how the tinctures affect you and adjust your amounts accordingly.
Store Tinctures: Please store upright in a cool, dark location to maximize shelf life. The tinctures come in a 1, 2, or 4-fluid-ounce amber glass bottle with a black dropper. Shake well prior to use.
